Jesse Weaver for Columbia County Sheriff

It is with great honor and excitement that I announce my official candidacy for the Office of Columbia County Sheriff. On Friday, March 7, 2014 I did file formal papers for Declaration of Candidacy and will be running as a Democrat.

I am 37 years old and live in the Town of Newport with my beautiful wife, Melanie, and our two children.  My children Claira, age 8, and Blake, age 6, provide me with the constant reminder and motivation to want to make Columbia County the safest community, for all our families to live and grow.

How You Can Help

I have spent most of my life preparing myself for public office.  I graduated from Wisconsin Dells High School and furthered my education at Winona State University, where I graduated with a Bachelors of Science – Criminal Justice.  I have also successfully completed Northwest University’s Supervision of Police Personnel Course.

Since graduating from college, I have been very active in public service.  I have coached athletics at the youth and High School Varsity levels.  I have been a member of the School District of Wisconsin Dells Board of Education for the past nine years and have served as the board President for the past two years.  I recently served as the Newport Town Chairman.  Melanie and I also own and operate two successful small businesses.  Starting a business from the ground up and having employees has taught me great fiscal responsibility and personnel management. Along with that comes customer service.  The Sheriff’s Department needs to be run as a great service provider and all residents and visitors of Columbia County should be treated as first class customers.

Throughout my career in law enforcement, I have earned great experience and education through extensive training, as well as holding several different specialized positions.

I have served in law enforcement for the past 15 years. Throughout my career in law enforcement, I have earned great experience and education through extensive training, as well as holding several different specialized positions. I have supervisory experience as a Sergeant.  I served as a School Resource Officer and D.A.R.E. Instructor for three years.  I was a K-9 Handler for five years and was awarded the Wisconsin Rookie K-9 Handler of the year.  I was a member of the Columbia County Drug Task Force, for several years, prior to it ultimately being dissolved. I have also been a member of the Sauk County Drug Task Force.  All of these experiences, plus many more, have provided me a solid law enforcement foundation, and will greatly enhance my effectiveness of running the Columbia County Sheriff’s Department.

As Sheriff, I will create a non-political department, one that is sensitive to the budget.

I will put a huge focus on resources to improve public safety, throughout Columbia County.

I look forward to creating a solid relationship with all the Chiefs, across Columbia County and the District Attorney’s Office, to improve cooperation between jurisdictions and create a united law enforcement effort.
